Just A Reminder...
CMS Beginner Fast Start
Monday, August 27, 2018
4-7pm @ CMS Auditorium
CMS Beginning Band Fast Start will take place on Monday, August 27 from 4pm-7pm in the CMS Auditorium. Your students are asked to remain at school if they are attending this event. We have asked that you send $3.00 with your student to help offset the cost of the pizza and drinks that we will serve between the end of the school day and the beginning of Fast Start.
The instruments that you have rented will be delivered and distributed at Fast Start. If your student already has their instrument, they can bring it to school on Monday and we will keep it in the band room until Fast Start begins. Your student will learn how to assemble, play, clean, and disassemble their instrument during the event. Students will receive instrument-specific instruction and will perform a brief, one-song concert at 6:50 pm to demonstrate what they learned during Fast Start. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to join us for that presentation.
We are looking forward to a great day of excitement as students get the experience of playing their instruments for the first time.
We will have the first of two Instrument Rental Nights TONIGHT!!!
Beginning Students had an opportunity to "test drive" and choose the instrument they'd like to play last week. Today and Wednesday (4-7pm in the CMS Auditorium), parents will need to come and set up rental accounts with our Instrument Companies (O'Malley Music & City Music).
Please be prepared to do the following:
1. Set Up Rental Accounts
2. Purchase the Beginning Band Method Book (Essential Elements)
3. Purchase a cleaning kit for the selected instrument
4. Purchase a wire stand for at-home practice
5. Purchase any extra accessories associated with selected instruments. (Clarinets & Saxes: at least 3 reeds; Brass: a small bottle of valve oil)
We are excited to welcome our new band family members!
Instrument Rental Nights
Monday, Aug 20 or Wednesday, Aug 22

We are in the process of finishing up Instrument Test Drives and will be sending home notices about which instrument your child performed well on.
The next step will be attending one of our Instrument Rental Nights in the CMS Auditorium and setting up an account with one of our music companies. You will also need to purchase books, accessories, cleaning kits, & stands at the meeting. (Parents please accompany your child to one of this nights.)
Instrument Rental Nights:
Monday, August 20 (4pm-7pm) w/ O'Malley Music
Wednesday, August 22 (4pm-7pm) w/ City Music
(Choose only one to attend.)
The next step of the journey is called Fast Start. At this event, students will receive their instruments and play them for the very first time. We will have staff and students on site to teach beginners how to assemble, play, clean, and store their instruments. This will be an after-school event and students should plan to not go home. We will be feeding students and are asking that they bring $3 for pizza and drinks. We will perform a one-song concert at the conclusion of Fast Start to showcase our new band family!
Monday, August 27 (4pm-7pm) in the CMS Auditorium.
We are so excited to welcome all of our new students and parents into our band family. We're set to have an awesome year!
